Our (Me and my family) first visit to National Gallery of Singapore! Yayyyy!

In the weekend, my family and I, we went to National Gallery of Singapore for the first time. I was nervous and excited at the same time! I even booked a ticket beforehand! We were afraid that there will be no ticket left to visit the Yayoi Kusuma's work. But, first, why did you go to art museum with your family? Did they get bored at some point? Teeheee. NO, I dont force them to go to museum with me like you think HAHAHA :P

So, lets start with a short background! So, short background on why I am fond of art, music and design : Since I was just a kid who barely know how to be smart or creative, my father always love to play jazz music in the car or living room. We also watch Ghibli's Spirited Away together in our sofa! Movie night is always kind of our thing! I love itt. I also remember my first movie ever, which is, Sleepless in Seattle, a very old movie that my dad loves (maybe) but we watched it together, I still remember how nice it is. You could tell that my father has influenced me and my brother in my art side, with movie, music, and anime, which became my favourite things in this world that I always keep updated with (somehow). This is where me and my brother started to enjoy art and music in general, We just enjoy it silently, or sometimes we discussed a new music or movie together in the car after watching it (like a pro movie critics lol). (enough with your babbling sam, go back to the blog post!) ok bro okay :p

Back to when we went to National Gallery, we are very excited and confused with the artworks that surround us, as we are not really experts on it. Therefore, we just try to understand the feeling that Yayoi Kusama wanted us to feel, or respond to. It is a very interesting to see people that do not understand art, trying to understand art. It became a very good discussion for a family quality time. We talked about how come some of the works is moving? like the dots are all moving in space! Some has an illusion that makes us dizzy. My brother thought that the works are making him sick in some point, he needs to go out from the room HAHAHAHAH W H Y BRO. Well, probably because I am used to see far more unexpected or disturbing works than Yayoi Kusama. On the other hand, my mother just "I like the dots, I like the colors, I am less colourful than the dots!! I need to wear more colourful clothes from now on. HAHAHAHA" I think Yayoi Kusama are successful to trigger a lot of emotion and inspiration or even an imagination on us, it started a lot of conversation between people, a lot of photo taking to since everything feel so artistic. (for instagram)

For me, art does not have a specific definition, it is a free expression with a creative freedom. Still, I believe that in every creative freedom there is always responsibility to hold on to. It is varies on the artists, medium, topics and problem. Sometimes it could be very sensitive or very emotional too people. The artist choose what they want to say, what they want people to feel, what they want people to talk about. As a designer, I enjoy art and I took art as part of my visual memory that I deeply keep in my mind, it is a good way to get an inspiration for a future project that probably fit into the creative direction. Who knows? So, how do you think about Yayoi Kusama's works? Or do you have any movie that are always close to your heart? Share yours! Maybe I will check it out.
